FISHUM UIN Held a Seminar and Book Review, Exploring Inspiration from the Work of Communication Science Lecturers

Yogyakarta, 22 November 2024 – Fakultas Ilmu Sosial dan Humaniora (FISHUM) UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta sukses menggelar Seminar dan Bedah Buku pada Jumat, 22 November 2024, berlangsung di Interactive Center Lt. 1 FISHUM UIN Sunan Kalijaga yang dihadiri oleh para dosen, mahasiswa, dan akademisi di lingkungan FISHUM.

The event began with remarks by the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Dr. Erika Setyanti Kusumaputri, S.Psi., M.Si. who also officially opened the event. In her speech, she expressed her appreciation for the implementation of this activity as a discussion space that enriches academic insights. "Hopefully this will become an event that must be routinized, as a culture of the academic climate in the faculty," she added.

This seminar and book review presented the main speakers and authors, Dr. Rama Kertamukti, M. Sn. and Handini, M. I. Kom. who are lecturers of Communication Science at FISHUM. The dissector in this event was Drs. Muryanti, M.A. lecturer in Sociology at FISHUM who provided an analytical perspective on the contents of the book discussed. The event was guided by a reliable moderator, Maya Sandra Rosita Dewi, S. Sos., M. I. Kom. who guided the discussion in an interactive and dynamic manner.

Dr. Rama Kertamukti began by explaining his work entitled "Cyber Culture: Gen Z, Self Projection, Algorithms " he explained the contents of the book in outline, namely how gen z currently makes the cyber world a second home to exchange all messages and information. "They consider that cyber media is also a space for expression, they consider this as something rich with friends. Gen Z exchanges information, exchanges data, exchanges opinions, and exchanges sadness." he explained.

Followed by Handini, S. Ikom, M. I. Kom. with her book entitled "Personal Branding " explained the background of writing the book departing from her observations of the current social media phenomenon. "So that social media players do not lose what they really are. Because of the need for justification, validation, and so on." he explained. Through its presentation, the Personal Branding book discusses how to recognize oneself, behave as a modern human being today, and the use and impact of social media.

Responding to the contents of these two books, Drs. Muryanti, M.A. conveyed the differences in the writing style of the two books. She also provided a sociological analysis of the two books. "People who use social media are part of a changing society," she said. She also highlighted the current society that has lost its identity and etiquette in using social media. The event then continued with an interactive discussion with seminar participants. (esa/red)
