GKR Mangkubumi Visits FISHUM as POP 2026 Seminar Promotes Sustainability Awareness and Environmental Responsibility

The Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities (FISHUM), UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta, through the Party of Public Relations or POP 2026 series, held a seminar titled “Land as Legacy & Shared Responsibility” on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at the Convention Hall, 2nd Floor, UIN Sunan Kalijaga. The seminar, which took place from 7:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., was attended by approximately 190 participants.

The seminar served as a follow-up agenda after the Grand Opening & Funwalk of POP 2026. Through its central theme, the event provided a space for discussion on sustainability, ecological awareness, the role of education, and shared responsibility in protecting the environment. Environmental issues were addressed not merely as technical concerns, but also as part of a social, cultural, and moral legacy that must be preserved across generations.

One of the main highlights of the seminar was the presence of Gusti Kanjeng Ratu Mangkubumi as one of the speakers. Her presence at FISHUM brought significant meaning to the discussion on the relationship between people, land, culture, and sustainability. As a prominent figure closely associated with the preservation of Yogyakarta’s cultural traditions and values, GKR Mangkubumi offered a broader perspective to the participants, emphasizing that protecting the environment is also closely connected to preserving collective memory, identity, and responsibility for the future.

In addition to GKR Mangkubumi, the seminar also featured Dr. Ayu Helena Cornellia and Ir. Saprian as speakers. The speakers addressed environmental and sustainability issues from various perspectives, allowing participants to gain a more comprehensive understanding of the importance of preventive measures against environmental degradation and the need for policies aligned with long-term sustainability.

The event was officially opened with a symbolic gong-striking ceremony by Vice Rector I of UIN Sunan Kalijaga, Istiningsih, and Vice Rector II of UIN Sunan Kalijaga, Mohammad Sodik, together with university officials. In her remarks, Istiningsih expressed her appreciation for the theme adopted by POP 2026. She stated that the issues of sustainability and environmental concern are highly relevant to current societal needs.

“I greatly appreciate this seminar, especially because the theme raised in Party of Public Relations is highly relevant to today’s needs, particularly in building awareness of sustainability and shared responsibility for the environment,” she said.

The Chairperson of the POP 2026 Committee, Rizki Wahyu Putra, stated that the seminar was expected to serve as a forum for exchanging ideas and strengthening young people’s awareness of their role in contributing positively to the environment.

“As the committee, we hope this seminar can become a space for exchanging ideas, broadening perspectives, and fostering the spirit of young people to continue developing and making a positive impact on their surrounding environment,” he said.

Through the POP 2026 Seminar, FISHUM UIN Sunan Kalijaga reaffirmed the importance of students’ roles in responding to ecological issues critically and responsibly. The event is expected not to end merely as a discussion forum, but to encourage participants to translate sustainability ideas into concrete actions in their everyday lives.

The presence of GKR Mangkubumi in this forum also served as a reminder that sustainability cannot be separated from awareness of legacy. Land, environment, and culture are shared trusts that require care, knowledge, and collective commitment. In this sense, POP 2026 was not only an academic and student-centered agenda, but also a reflective space for young people to understand the future of the environment as a shared responsibility.
